The Regan Peacock Fung Memorial Art Fund
I’m incredibly grateful to have been awarded the Regan Peacock Fung Memorial Art Fund Award to support my project, Echoes of Winter: A Sonic Exploration of Northern Ontario and Quebec’s Landscapes. This work delves into the boundaries of place, memory, and human connection through sound, film, and sculpture, with a focus on deep listening—engaging with sound in a way that fosters profound connections to the environment.
Echoes of Winter captures the nuanced soundscapes of these regions during winter: the muffled hush of snow, the whistle of wind through barren trees, the cracks of ice, and the industrial echoes of trains and snow removal vehicles. These sounds tell a story of winter’s isolation and introspection, transforming noise into an immersive experience.
This project is both a return to and a reimagining of familiar landscapes, exploring the interplay between environment and identity. With the fund’s support, I’ll bring these soundscapes to life through sculptural installations, inviting others to listen deeply and reflect on their own connections to place and memory.
